Anybody fired up about the Pen's this year, with the new CBA stacked in their favor, for once (take that, Rangers!) Here's what they look like heading into the NHL's brave new world:

Unlike most hockey towns, I don't think the we'll have a problem getting excited for hockey after the lock out. This new bargaining agreement saved the Pens from doom.....

Geez, they're talking about bringing Neidemeyer aboard! I'd just like to see Alexei Kovalev come back.

My daughter just informed me that two penguins at the Pittsburgh Zoo hatched a baby chick. They named it Mario.:)

The baby pen was named after a Pittsburgh sports icon, Jean - and it probably shoulda been Mario, double yoi! Of course, they haven't figured out if it's a guy or gal penguin yet, sooooooooooooo...

Newborn Zoo Penguin Named After Myron Cope

PITTSBURGH -- A new arrival is waddling into the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.

Myron, a baby gentoo penguin, hatched June 28 in the aquarium's penguin exhibit.

Staff members named the fluffy chick in honor of recently retired Steelers broadcaster Myron Cope.

The sex of the chick is not known yet. If female, she'll be called Myra.

Oh, sorry about the wrong info. I'll kick her butt tomorrow!! Well, since Myron is retiring I guess that's appropriate.:)

That's easy enuff to confuse, Myron/Mario; heck, Myron might translate to Mario in Yiddish, for all I know. And it would make more sense to name a penguin after a Penguin, so your daughter was probably more on target than the zoo dudes. It does look like mama, top right, might be wearing a Terrible Towel, tho.

Here's a great article on Sid the Kid. Every superstar should be so grounded: sports.espn.go.com/nhl/feature/featureVideo [sports.espn.go.com/nhl/feature/featureVideo] compliments of Irish Yankee

The Pen's are off to a slow start (they're .500 now) just like the new Arena. But it's finally a go, and supposed to be ready for the 2010-2011 hockey season: post-gazette.com/pg/07318/833624-53.stm [post-gazette.com/pg/07318/833624-53.stm]

It's moving down the street some, to Fifth Avenue, but same general neighborhood.

This should perk up Pen fans a little more; we're gonna draft number #1, woohoo - and pick Sidney Crosby, everyone's "can't miss" dude!

EDIT - Turned out to be a pretty good pick, hey? After a couple seasons and a few awards, maybe he's ready to lead up to the promised land!

Jeezus, Ron. Our forum sucks. Pens take the #2 seed in the playoffs, Buccos aren't in the toilet yet and no one is posting a thing!!!

As far as injuries being a "good" thing, I say it might've been a positive for Sid to be out for two months. It forced everyone else to grow and develop, not just rely on him to carry the team.
