On a brighter note: Kennywood's open, with a spiffy new "dark" ride to replace the Gold Mine: post-gazette.com/pg/08129/879755-57.stm [post-gazette.com/pg/08129/879755-57.stm]

Nacho cheese on those potato patch fries? Hot tamales instead of hot dogs, hehe? A sad day, but one that you could see coming. It seems that the dollar is pretty weak versus the Euro now, and the family run Kennywood operation had 100 different members, some of whom wanted to invest in the park and others that wanted some loot in their own pockets instead. The days of mom and pop operations are done, even for institutions like Kennywood. Maybe they can add more than one new ride every few years now. But yah, it will never be the same. Nothing is. At least it didn't fold like West View, White Swan, and Conneaut did.
Good pick up, Miss C - I was meaning to post that tidbit.
